What is new @ CIU?
First off, we want to give a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Andrew, who just celebrated his 1 year Anniversary with CIU on Tuesday November 4th. Andrew has had a great year and we're so happy to have him as part of our team. He is a true asset to our company and to our clients.
Next on the list is THIS! Welcome to the CIU Networks Inc introductory company newsletter. We're proud to present you with our first issue and hope you will find some valuable information inside. Each month we plan to offer a new and helpful "Tech Tip" as well as a "Tech Gadget of the Month". These monthly features are intended to make life a little easier for you in and out of the office. We hope you enjoy the newsletter and please feel free to give us any feedback that would help improve future issues.
And last but certainly not least, the BIG KAHUNA of exciting news over here at CIU is definitely the launch of our new and improved website! We founded this company in a day, and the old website was proof that we've been busy. We gave the site some major TLC and voila, a much improved space for our clients and future clients to visit and learn more about who we are and what we do. We are darn happy with the new website and hope you are too!
Please visit the site to see the fruits of our labors: www.ciunetworks.com

IT Topic of the Month: DITCHING YOUR TAPES FOR ONLINE BACKUPS
Still using tape back-up services? That's so 2005. Here are the reasons why you should get rid of those clunky tapes and opt for online backups:
Online backups run on their own, which means you don't have to do a thing but sit back and relax. Well if you're running a successful company you probably shouldn't literally sit back and relax, but you know what we mean.
Point-in-Time Restores, which means you can restore any file from any day immediately. No digging through the tapes to locate the date, then the file.
Your company's data is protected in the event of a disaster since its stored offsite. Fire, theft, earthquake, and even tornadoes, although highly unlikely in Southern California, are no match for online backups.
Customizable Retention Levels, which is a fancy way of saying that you can keep the data as long as you need or want it, as opposed to having to overwrite on tapes. Say goodbye to the tedious monthly archiving process.
No space limitations! A traditional tape drive system could run as much as $7000 and still only store about 200-400 gigs of data. With online backups you can store data for as low as $1.50/GB. Now that's a Best Bang for Your Buck!

Tech Word of the Month:
Fragmentation: The storage of a file on a disk in segments which are not in order or next to each other. When a file is stored, the data is placed in whatever disk areas are first available, which may mean breaking it into different segments or fragments. High levels of fragmentation can greatly compromise your system performance and may even lead to system lock ups and corrupt files.
Defragmenting puts all the fragments of each file back together and the areas of free space together, thus speeding up access time and making more free space available on the disk. For more information on how to properly defrag you computer and set defrag schedules, please contacts us.
Bottom Line: When you defragment your drive it will run faster and smoother.
